A culture that privileges thinness is one that makes fat people feel like it is 100% their fault for anything that anyone chooses to say regarding their body type (no matter how terrible, like how fat people shouldn’t be parents or should be murdered and fed to starving people), or do to them…

My most awkward moment as a hairdresser so far was when one of my clients confided to me that she lost her baby because she is overweight. I didn’t know what do to. I wanted to scream at her that that is BULLSHIT. Her weight had nothing to do with it. Being overweight is not a cause for a…

Totally agree with you. I think weight has very little to do with conception and pregnancy. I mean there’s so much that has to happen! It’s actually ridiculously hard to get pregnant and stay pregnant. It’s a complex process and to blame it all on weight is just ridiculous.

Your weight does play a part in your pregnancy.

yeah weight does play a role, but it’s not the only factor.

Of course, but it does play a pretty big part when it comes to miscarriages. Or even being able to conceive.

I was pregnant before. This summer. I was really underweight. I miscarried because I couldn’t maintain a healthy weight.

I try my best with this pregnancy to gain weight. So far, I have gained 20lbs. I’m no longer in the underweight category but I’m still very tiny for 6 months. Every day that I wake up still pregnant is a blessing because it’s normally very easy for me to lose weight rather than gain and my baby can suffer from a low birth weight/other complications due to my weight alone. ;/

So part of it’s missing. This woman was on a doctor-prescribed starvation diet because she was “too fat” to be pregnant. And… no. No, no, no. But I’m not allowed to diagnose LICE, let alone bullshit “medicine.”

But anyway, I’m really glad this post-made-in-anger gave you the space to talk about this. I imagine it must be really hard, when you’re ready for your family and it’s hard to have it happen. We’re ALL rooting for you. Bless. You will be a wonderful mom.

Why thank you! Very much! It’s very appreciated!

To be quite honest, the doctor was at fault for putting her on a starvation diet and not a healthy diet. There are other ways to maintain a healthy pregnancy weight. Starving should NEVER EVER be a suggestion.

Whatever you eat, your baby eats as well. If I’m NOT eating, my baby is NOT eating. People who are overweight and/or underweight tend to have more complications during pregnancy because of their weight.

On the other hand, generally, it is a 50/50 gamble to stay pregnant. The further along you make it, the lesser your chance of miscarriage. But weight shouldn’t be dismissed as a factor because it does play a part.

Pregnancy puts a lot of stress on your body and being overweight/underweight also puts stress on your body. Add the two together and generally, you have a recipe for disaster.

Totally agree. Doctors, and I only have anecdotal evidence of this but some of it’s personal, often prescribe unhealthy crash diets to fat patients. Like “lose weight” is a magic panacea for anything wrong with a fat person. Like my depression. So dumb.

It does definitely go both ways, under- and over- weight alike, but it just broke my heart that the only thing her doctor looked at was her weight. Like, an iron deficiency can be a cause. I can’t argue too much into it because I don’t know my client’s exact life, I just wanted to make her pain stop and… no one should ever be blamed like that for losing their kid. Especially not by someone who’s taking the Hippocratic Oath.

Post pictures if you’re comfortable doing so, when your baby gets here. I don’t even know you, but I honest to goodness am so happy for you and excited for you <3

Is it just me or are the Whisper Men(Doctor Who) and the Gentlemen(Buffy) rather similar?

I want the Doctor to take a kid as his companion.

A 14-15 year old kid who’s parents are fighting, has few friends, bad grades, and feels like complete shit before the Doctor comes.

No kissing, complicated relationships, confusion or stuff like that, just the Doctor taking a kid who doesn’t see much out of life for a ride.

He can’t bring himself to do it. Not after what happened to Adric.

Okay I need help from the Buffy fandom.

I know Xander’s first time staking a vampire is Jesse, but when is the first time we see Willow stake a vampire? I can’t remember and it’s really bugging me.

I think it was either When She Was Bad or Anne. For a second I thought it was Bargaining, but that can’t be right. One of the ones where Buffy wasn’t in Sunnydale for the summer.

My friex (that’s friend and ex and I just made it up now, ok?) always tells me to go back to bed or he’ll tell mom about my Playboys when i’m up late on a school night. Jokes on him, tho, my mom knows about my Playboys. Also, he calls me Louis, which is a little weird.
